It is advisable to practice weeding and hoeing operation 8 days, 15 days and 60 days after the emergence of millet.

🌦 In West Africa, the cultivation of millet takes place during the rainy season (wintering). This period coincides with the school holidays and it is not uncommon for students and young people from the village to come and lend a helping hand for these activities.

👨‍🌾 The weeding and hoeing operation is carried out either using a hoe towed by a horse, or manually using an iler (a versatile agricultural tool consisting of a rounded blade at the front, with two side wings, and a long wooden handle).

This weeding and hoeing operation therefore has 2 effects: to make it possible to weed and control unwanted herbs by weeding and to make it possible to break the crust of the soil and to raise the water by capillarity thanks to hoeing.

💦 As the saying goes: "who hoing waters"; hoeing is therefore absolutely essential in our Sahel region where water is very precious even in the rainy season.
