🌞 How we use impact solutions to benefit girls and women in Ndiaganiao, Senegal (Episode 5) ✌🏾
In Soussoum (commune of Ndiaganiao in Senegal), the building we rehabilitated takes water and was not designed to accommodate electricity, only a diesel mill. 🌫
In 2024, how can we imagine powering productive equipment in rural areas with anything other than solar energy? Especially when the equipment is located 7 km from the first conventional Senelec socket? ⚡
In Senegal, the sun provides us with up to 4.2 kW of energy per m2 per day, with over 3,000 hours of sunshine per year.
By comparison, in Belgium, the sun provides only 2.5 kW of energy per m2 per day and 1,750 hours of sunshine per year. 🌤
While it's estimated that in 2022 Belgium will have around 700 Wp of solar panels installed per capita (over 1,100 Wp in the Netherlands and 253 Wp in France), Senegal will have barely 20 Wp of solar panels installed per capita at the same time.
There's so much to do to solarize our country! 💪🏾
In this spirit, we've installed twelve 440 Wp solar panels, or 5.28 kWp of solar power, at our Walalma Women's Solar Service Center in Soussoum. 👩🏾🔧
In addition to bringing electricity to areas not yet connected to the grid and powering machines for productive use, solar energy replaces CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions previously generated by diesel-powered mills.
No smoke, no noise, no trips to the gas station 20 km away, no energy costs or bills - solar power in the countryside has a bright future. ✔️️
But how can solar panels power an electric mill with a 380V three-phase motor? .... The answer in the next episode 😉.
💡 Thanks to our solar and sustainable solution, #madeinsenegal 🌞
Stay tuned for the rest of this great story Walalma 🚀
